Staircase

This is part of the grateful series.

I’m grateful I can go up the stairs.

Living with my grandmother, I’ve seen her health deteriorate with age.

By living with an elder, I’ve been given this opportunity to absorb what I take for granted in my youth. I see how my life may shift and what my body will converge towards.

Walking up a staircase unassisted is an example of something I, and I’d assume most my age, take for granted.

Each step we set forward, we progress up in height. It’s an empowering feeling really – to be able to ascend to new heights on your own.

Now, imagine a time when you’ll need to use a cane, or be restricted to progressing with only one leg.

You may need help from someone, or something.

I’m grateful for the body I have and it’s current condition.

I’m grateful I can go up the stairs, one step at a time.
